Missions Trips
Missions Trips
By Andrew Buffin
If you are privileged enough to be able to attend North Idaho Christian School, then you are no stranger to the concept of the mission’s trip and of the good that it can do in someone’s life. However, only few truly know what it entails and the importance that it has. Every year, North Idaho Christian School gives students an opportunity to head down to Mexico with other students and leaders, to ultimately give people what they do not have. This year during spring break, our students headed down to a foreign place to build a house for a family that wouldn’t have the means of building one themselves; which is truly an amazing and beautiful thing to witness!
To see this amount of dedication and fellowship is an amazing thing that the Lord is growing in their lives but there is something far more valuable that the structures that they build. When the students head down they not only take physical gifts but rather they are going to offer the gift of Christ our Savior and reconciliation for our sins. The reason we do the other stuff is because if we went down there strictly preaching the message of God that is all good; but others who wouldn’t usually listen take notice to a Christ-like example and are intrigued to find out more. This is the ultimate purpose for such a journey. It’s not to have a good time with friends, while that most certainly happens, but to share the glory, love, and servitude that are exemplified through Christ and His life.
One of the frequent members on the trip is a student by the name of Josh Butcher who is our current student counsel Vice President and in his Junior year. When asked about the importance of such a trip he replied: “That the overall feeling and the joy that we don’t normally recognize through a servanthood nature is so amazing to see, not through yourself but for what it can do in another’s life.” Josh is one of many who go on these trips and it is really encouraging to hear these takeaways from their experiences.
NICS has been doing trips like these for many years, and we all so often get to see what good they are doing through slideshows presented in Chapel to the new mindset you see in those who went. However, it is not just them that can go and make a difference, for we are all called to spread the infallible message of our perfect and only God. What a better opportunity to fulfill a mission’s calling and be able to go make a difference in this world for the glory of God. The next trip will be scheduled to go to the same compound in Mexico and are planning on departing either Spring break of 2018 or the summer thereof, and all are encouraged to head out on this perspective/worldview changing journey for the betterment of others and to make them aware of the gift that has permanently changed our life forever.
