Uniform Wearing
Students should not be forced to wear uniforms at North Idaho Christian School because it allows them to help express themself. There is nothing more irritating than waking up, showering, and getting into clothes that do not fit well, are uncomfortable, and do not look good. It will make students grumpy and not want to follow school rules even more.
School uniforms are irritating; they do not look good nor fit well. Who wants to look like a walking rainbow everywhere they go? No one! You want to look good and feel good as you walk down the streets or pass through the halls at school. The only options as students we have is to either do our hair differently or wear different shoes. That makes it nearly impossible to express yourself and feel good.
Looking good is a huge confidence booster. It raises your self esteem, knowing that you look good as you walk through the school. Raising the confidence of students will help improve grades, attendance, and the attitude towards school rules. There will be no more complaining about the uniforms we have to wear; no more worrying about teachers breathing down the backs of students whose clothes do not fit well.
This is not to say that there should be no rules at all; obviously there is the need for modesty. Rules should be set in place, and enforced the same way that they are enforced by teachers today. If students did not wear appropriate clothing, than the privilege of wearing normal clothes could be taken away, and the student that broke the rule would be forced to wear uniforms for the specified time that the principle set forth. Or, the student who breaks the rules could be forced to wear a garbage bag for the rest of the day for modesty reasons, kind of like public humiliation. Then, the student would not want to wear that clothing again for fear of being shamed by the public.
Obviously there is the argument that if students do not follow the rules now, then they are not going to follow them if they are changed to allow normal clothes. I would disagree; students would be more likely to follow the rules if they agree with them. By allowing students to wear normal clothes, then they would want to follow the rules so that they do not have the privilege of wearing normal clothes taken away.
Students would be more likely to follow rules if they agreed with them. That is just like people are more willing to follow laws if the people agree with them. By allowing students to wear everyday clothes, there would be very little to no backlash against the school. This would improve student behavior and feelings toward the school.
In conclusion, there is nothing against the Bible that says wearing normal clothes is wrong as long as we are modest in the way we dress. By simply allowing for some leeway in the way we dress and enforcing a couple rules, grades could rise, attendance improve, and an overall appreciation for the school go up. It sounds like a win-win to me.
