Tuesday, May the 16th was the NICS 2017 “Royal Talent Show” and All-School Praise Night, which had basically three parts: The awards night, the talent show, and the art gallery. The night opened with a word from Mr. Booth and some performances by the worship team. After that, it went into many stunning performances by the students, and the awards for honor roll, perfect attendance, and the reading goals.

There were a number of awards given to individual students to honor determination, a Christlike attitude, or being a role model. The first of these major awards was the Biblical character award, which went to Hunter Hiatt for his selfless and kind personality. The second was the reading award, which went to the student who had read and interviewed with the librarian the most, which was Aleesa McArthur for reading over 2,000 words. The Board of Directors award went to the student the NICS board thought was the student to highlight because of trustworthiness and respectability, Brandon Schwintek. Another award went to Hunter Hiatt that night, the Mary Fisher award. This is a memorial award to honor the Godly character of Mary Fisher, a student that attended North Idaho Christian School. The Frank Canale Memorial Award went to the student who most reflected the determination and kindness of NICS board member Frank Canale. This year, his granddaughter, Raina Canale won the award.

There were many interesting talents displayed in the performance part of the Talent Show. The worship team performed renditions of “Holy Unafraid”, “Lion and the Lamb”, and “A Downpour of Doubt” to start us off. We then saw many different performances, from rap and pop music to drum solos and team dances. In the gym, for before and after the talent show in the sanctuary, NICS showcased a variety of drawings, brochures, statues, and craftsmanship; even a Lego sculpture.

What are some reasons we have a talent show and awards night? 1 Peter 4:10: “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” A talent show allows students to display their God-given, unique interests and talents. The awards let them get recognized for something they worked hard to accomplish. The night gathers students of all ages, parents, and grandparents together, filtering in a sense of camaraderie. As Mr. Booth so eloquently said, “we are all part of the group of individuals that make up the NICS body. Students, family, friends, and staff; but we are more than just a body; we are the NICS family.”
